Karpathos earthquake

On 22 January 2002, an earthquake of magnitude Mw = 6.2 occurred close to Karpathos Island (Southern Greece) where no damages were reported. The hypocenter (depth=90 km) is located on the Hellenic subduction zone. The area is characterized by several deep events that occurred in the past, but this is the first instrumentally recorded deep event in the area. The calculated slip model is very simple showing one main source.
